On 23 Aug 10 William E. Bacorn, age 35, 500
1/2 Third Street, New Matamoras, reported sometime overnight
an unknown suspect(s) punctured the front and rear tires on
the passenger side of his Chevy Impala. This case remains under
investigation.

Squirrel Season Offers Hunters Preparation For Fall Hunting
COLUMBUS, OH
- Ohio's squirrel season will open on September 1, providing hunters
with an opportunity to take as many as six squirrels each day,
according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division
of Wildlife.

Sheriff's Report through 08-20-2010
Anonymous writes "Matamoras area press releases through 08-20-2010:
On 16 Aug 10 Timothy L. Erb, age 47, 2765 Sheets
Run Drive, New Matamoras, reported sometime overnight an unknown
suspect(s) stole a 1987 Chevy truck from his property. Mr. Erb
said he is in the process of repairing the truck and that it
is not driveable. While investigating the case, Sgt. Thorpe
learned the Ohio State Highway Patrol discovered the truck abandoned
and on fire near the intersection of Sheets Run Drive and State
Route 7. This case remains under investigation.

citation to Denise J. Day, age 34, 1308 Williamson Avenue Apt.
8B, New Matamoras, for driving under a suspended license. Deputy
Day stopped Ms. May for operating a vehicle with a cracked windshield
on State Route 7 near milepost fifteen in Warren Township."

On 31 Jul 10 a passerby reported observing
Mary Sidel, age 44, 817 Grandview Avenue, New Matamoras, involved
in an argument with her son and that he felt Ms. Sidel’s
son was being abusive toward his mother. Interviewed by Sgt.
Hornbeck, Ms. Sidel said she and her son were only arguing and
no physical altercation took place. As a result, Sgt. Hornbeck
closed this case as unfounded."

On 29 Jul 10 William Bacorn, age 35, 500 1/2
Third Street, New Matamoras, reported Matthew Lamp, age 32,
318 Main Street, New Matamoras, began banging on his front door
and yelling at him around 3 am in the morning. Mr. Bacorn said
he is dating Mr. Lamp’s estranged wife and on more than
one occasion that morning he said Mr. Lamp threatened to kill
him. At one point during the incident, Mr. Bacorn stated he
heard Mr. Lamp say that he was damaging his truck. When he next
looked at his truck, Mr. Bacorn said the headlights and side
windows were broken. Though Mr. Lamp denied both threatening
Mr. Bacorn and damaging his property, Deputy Travaglio requested
a summons for Mr. Lamp for menacing and criminal damaging.

Obituaries: Julia O Marsh Balint
Anonymous writes "Julia O Marsh Balint, Age 88, of Finleyville, died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at her home. She
was born March 9, 1922 in Bremen, OH and raised in New Matamoras, OH;
a daughter of Harliegh and Olga Renier Marsh."
Note: My grandmother, Julia O Marsh Balint, was a native of New Matamoras and
she passed away a few days ago near Pittsburgh, PA. She always spoke
fondly of her childhood along the Ohio River and of the dear friends
that she left there.Ryan Kennedy

Sheriffs Report: Sheriff's Report through 7-23-2010

At 0034 on 18 Jul 10 the Sheriff’s Office
responded to a call concerning Michael W. Leasure, age 18, 5380
SR 260, New Matamoras, OH had been transported to the Wetzel
County Hospital by the Antioch Squad where he had been pronounced
dead upon arrival. The investigation revealed Leasure had been
at the residence of Ethel Lamp, 318 Main Street, New Matamoras
where he began having seizures. Information received from witnesses
indicates Leasure had ingested at least one Saboxin and a Vicodin
pill earlier in the evening. Mr. Leasure’s body will be
transported to Charleston for an autopsy to determine the cause
of death.

Sheriffs Report: Sheriff's Report through 7-16-2010

On 11 Jul 10 Robert L. Lohr, age 19, 817 Grandview Avenue, New Matamoras, reported he departed his locked residence at 1 am and when he drove past his home approximately four hours later he noticed lights were on inside. When he looked inside the home, Mr. Lohr said several rooms were ransacked and furniture was upended. Interviewing the other residents of the home, Deputy Sheriffs Reeder and Travaglio determined a DVD player, a Playstation, a .38 handgun, five gold and diamond necklaces and five gold rings were missing. This case remains under investigation.

Timothy Lee Erb, age 47, 1004 Grandview Avenue
Apt. A, New Matamoras, for a felony charge of
possession of
drugs and for misdemeanor charges of possession of
drugs and
possession of drug paraphernalia. Erb was arrested at
his residence
by Patrolman Travaglio of the New Matamoras Police
Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 4 Jul
10 at
2:33 am."
